The **8K2 Controller** works well with the [[https://www.lekholminstruments.com/|Lekholm DM48X Digital Chromatic Harmonica]] when connected to an iPad running AUM - Audio Mixer. ===== Description =====

The 8K2 Controller a custom USB MIDI device with 8 buttons and a 10 foot long USB cable.

This works well with the DM48X Digital MIDI Harmonica with the AUM Audio Mixer app on iOS. This is what Jason Keene uses. (Note that we cannot offer support for getting things running so you should know what you are doing... or hire Jason to help you out.)

We'll include a small chunk of hook & loop and 8 rubber bumpons if you want to attach some to the buttons.

===== USB Cable =====

The device comes with a 10 foot long USB cable. You can replace it with a short (or longer) cable if desired. (Note that 15 feet is the maximum length for a USB cable without using extenders.)

You can remove the bottom cover and you'll see where the Micro USB cable is plugged in. As long as your replacement cable can fit in the device it should work just fine.

===== Dimensions =====

The enclosure (black box) is 140mm x 35mm x 23mm. Including the buttons the full height of the unit is approximately 25mm tall.

===== Programming =====

Button Assignments (left to right):

  - Toggle CC22 (127 for first press, 0 for second)
  - Toggle CC23 (127 for first press, 0 for second)
  - Toggle CC24 (127 for first press, 0 for second)
  - Toggle CC25 (127 for first press, 0 for second)
  - Send program change (decrease by one)
  - Send program change (increase by one)
  - Send value 127 on CC63 when pressed, send value 0 when released
  - Send value 64 on CC1 when pressed, send value 0 when released

  * For "Send program change" it will start at 0 when powered on, so the first press of  button 6 will change it to 1. (It will never go below zero or over 127.)

  * Note: "Left" is the side with the USB cable on it.

===== Changing the Cable =====

Some people have asked how to change the cable to a longer or shorter one. Note that we have 3 foot, 6 foot, and 10 foot USB cables and the ones we use will all fit the 8K2 Controller, but other cables may not. If you need a different length get in touch,

Remove the four Philpips head screws on the bottom of the unit.

Once removed you will see the end of the USB cable plugged into the controller board.

Gently lift the cable out of the groove at the end of the enclosure.

Be careful as forcing it may break the USB port off of the board.

Wiggle the cable left and right to get it loose... Again, be gentle while doing so.

Once you have the cable free from the port you can remove it.

With the cable removed you can now insert the replacement.

It may help to bend the cable as shown for insertion.

Now you'll basically reverse the process.

Gently insert the replacement cable.

Once the cable is plugged in lay it into the groove in the enclosure.

With the cable in place you can put the bottom cover back on.

Make note of the orientation. The small hole in the cover needs to be over the white reset button on the board.

Make sure to not over-tighten the screws when putting the cover back on.
