Description

This is a custom USB controller which features a rotary dial that can be used for scrolling, volume control, or other input. The knob can be pressed to simulate a mouse click, key press, or send a key combination. The knob spins “forever” meaning it does not have a hard stop in either direction (just like a mouse scroll wheel). It has detents for precise control, allowing you to move one “step” at a time.

When programmed as a mouse scroll wheel/mouse click it can be used in a DAW to emulate turning a real knob while controlling an on-screen knob. Just mouse over an on-screen dial and the turn the dial on the S1D.

The device can alternately be programmed as a USB MIDI device and any software that has a “learn MIDI” mode can recognize it. (It works well as a Continuous Controllers device and also has a button that can be pressed.)

The encoder has 20 “clicks” per full turn, which means if you're using MIDI will take 6 1/2 turns to go from 0 to 127.

If you are doing custom software development and in need of a serial device, this can also fulfill those needs, sending serial data of your choosing to your own software.

We'll include a Micro USB Cable as long as we have them in stock. (Most likely it will be a 3 foot cable.)

The bottom of the unit has two holes, one allows you to see an internal LED for troubleshooting and the other can access an internal reset button used to load new firmware onto the device.

NOTE: We have an “Analog” version as well, look for the “S1A Analog Controller” in our shop!

Customized Programming: We'll need to know what software and what operating system you are using in order to program the controller. For any customized programming requested we'll get in touch with you to confirm exactly what you want. (If you want MIDI control and are not sure what you need we can program the dial to send CC3 and the button to send CC9. This has worked for most people.) Programming

The S1D Digital Controller can be programmed to function as a mouse scroll wheel and mouse button. (The knob acts as a button when pressed down.) This is often used by people who use a DAW and what the feel of a real physical knob being turned rather than using an on-screen know.

The S1D can also be used to send MIDI CC data. We often program it to send CC3 (0 to 127) and then send the knob/button press to send 127 on CC9.

As with the other devices there is plenty of room for customization.

Knob Testing

Got a mouse with a scroll wheel? Go here and put your mouse cursor over the control, then roll your mouse scroll wheel:

Does the control change? It should. Now imagine using an actual real world knob instead of a tiny little mouse scroll wheel. That's what the S1D Digital Controller can do.
