This is an old revision of the document!
This is a big deal… it's a BIG USB BUTTON!
Yes, it's ridiculously big, and it's a USB Button.
The Big Button uses a small microcontroller to emulates a USB keyboard. We've programed it to type a space when you push the button, which works great with the Sparkbooth photo booth software, but we can also program it for F4 if you use DSLR Remote Pro, or we can make it type pretty much anything you desire. Maybe you want to host a game show simulation on your PC. This will work. (Missile launching will cost extra though.)
The Big Button should work on any computer that supports USB, and should not require any special drivers, since it’s basically just a keyboard with one key. (It can even work on iOS and Android devices.) It can also function as a USB MIDI device. Need a noteOn sent? We can do that.
And hey, it LIGHTS UP! Right now the LED inside is set to be 'on' until you press the big button, and then it turns 'off' for quickly to let you know you've pressed it. This is customizable, and if you want something else, just let us know. (All power is provided via USB, no batteries needed.) A few more details: The Big Button was assembled by hand. The case is made of powder coated die-cast aluminum (though the top “button half” is all plastic.) If the included USB cable is too long (or too short), you can open the case and replace it. The Big Button is tested before we ship it out to ensure that it works properly. We hate when things don't work properly, and we bet you do too.
The enclosure (black box) is listed as being 119mm x 94mm x 56mm… But the enclosure has an angle from the bottom to top, so here are the dimensions I've measured:
Bottom: 119.5 mm x 94 mm (4mm radius corners)
Top: 115.75 mm x 90 mm (4mm radius corners)
Height (with bottom attached): 57mm
Note that we apply rubber non-slip feet to the bottom, which adds about 2.5mm. These can be easily removed.
The big button itself is 100mm wide by 83mm tall. (the 83mm includes the button/electronics below the surface.)
45mm of the button is visible above the surface. The button needs approximately 38mm below the top surface for the button/electronics mounted below it.
The black collar is 17.5mm tall. There is a small gap, and then the curved black part above the black collar (right below the colored dome portion) is about 8mm tall.
The device can be programmed to send a single keystroke, for instance a space character or the enter key, as well as a key combo. It can also function as a USB MIDI device and send a noteOn/noteOff, CC data, PC data, or any other MIDI data.
